All Four Wheels on the Ground
All Four Wheels on the Ground
I still remember the stunt I saw on "Candid Camera" many years ago. Back before the days of self-service, a driver asks the gas station attendant to check his tires. Imagine the employee’s surprise when he discovers the right front wheel is missing! The car had been counterbalanced so it could drive on three wheels.
Just as cars are designed to have all four wheels on the ground, so in our spiritual lives we dare not omit anything God says is essential in our service to Him.
Let one wheel represent doctrinal soundness. How vital it is for us to believe the truth and reject error!
Let another wheel signify our involvement in the work, worship, and fellowship of the church. What good does it do to be straight as an arrow doctrinally if we’re not using the talents God has given us to work in conjunction with our brothers and sisters in Christ?
The third wheel symbolizes our devotional life as we pray and study God’s word throughout the week. What if we believe the truth and are active in the kingdom, but we neglect this vital element? Something’s missing!
Let the fourth wheel stand for holy living. What if we’re doctrinally sound, involved in the church, diligent to pray and study, but are not honest in our dealings or pure in our morals?
All four wheels on the ground. A missing wheel on "Candid Camera" may have been good for a laugh, but a missing dimension in our Christian lives is true cause for alarm! We simply can’t afford to do without it.
Checked your tires lately?
