God is Faithful
Do you sometimes feel that the promises of the New Testament stretch your faith to the breaking point? Do you ever feel the need for some reassurance that the promises really work? Are they for real? How can we be sure?
Consider who made the promises: God did. Is He a God of integrity, or does He, like many people, fail to do what He said He would do?
God is faithful. That’s it—God is faithful. That’s really why we can have complete confidence in the tremendous promises. God is faithful!
Christians are promised that Christ “will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” And how can we be sure? Paul gives the reason: “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:8-9).
Along the same line: “. . . may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24).
Here’s another one: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).
One more: “Finally, brothers, pray for us . . . that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:1-3).
Our faithfulness is rooted in His faithfulness. Because He can be trusted not to let us down, we must not let Him down by failing to trust His promises.
By our obedience we show Him we really do trust Him. God is faithful, and that’s enough!
