This Jesus
Just who is this Jesus we encounter on the pages of the New Testament? A careful study of His life as recorded by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John can dispel our misconceptions, and we may come to see Jesus as we've never seen Him before.
He is both Son of Man (human) and Son of God (divine). He was first a carpenter, then became both teacher and healer. He knew hunger and fatigue, sorrow and joy, the comfort of friendship and the bitter opposition of enemies.
He was, and still is, the most respected and the most rejected of all men. He did no wrong, yet He died as a criminal. He walked the earth as a poor man, but now reigns in heaven as King of kings and Lord of lords.
As the worker of miracles He brought healing to the blind, the deaf, the lame, and the leprous. He cast out demons with a word. He raised the dead. He walked on water. He stilled the storm. He fed a crowd of thousands with five loaves and two fish, with 12 basketfuls left over.
He shows us life as it was meant to be lived. He practiced what He preached—shunning a love of material things, stooping to humble service, and refusing to retaliate when wronged. He befriended the penitent and rebuked the hardhearted. He hated sin while loving the sinner--loving even to the point of death.
He died, yet He lives. He first came as a babe and will come again as Judge. To those who did His Father's will He will say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." To those who did not do the Father's will He will say, "Depart from me."
He is both Lamb of God and Good Shepherd, sacrifice and High Priest, servant and Lord. He is all of this and more.
But what is He to you?
