Promises Made/Promises Kept
The Bible is full of promises. They can be classified as: 1) those God has already fulfilled, 2) those He is now fulfilling, 3) those yet to be fulfilled.
●God promised Noah there would be a flood, and after the flood God promised He would never destroy the world again by water.
●God promised Abraham that he and Sarah would have a son in their old age, that Abraham’s descendants would be like the stars in number, and that in him all nations would be blessed.
●God promised Moses He would be with him and help him deliver Israel.
●God promised to bring Israel into the Promised Land.
●God promised Israel the Messiah.
●Christ promised He would rise on the third day.
●Christ promised He would send the Holy Spirit.
●Christ promised to build His church.
By reflecting on these and many other promises that God has faithfully fulfilled, may we not have complete confidence that the promises He makes us will be fulfilled? For example, He promises to provide our needs if we will seek first His kingdom and His righteousness (Matt. 6:33). Countless Christians who have tested Him out on this one will testify: He keeps His promise!
Christ promises to return someday, give each of His people an immortal spiritual body, and take them home to glory. Since we’ve never experienced anything like this, we must rely totally on the integrity, faithfulness, and goodness of Christ.
Do we have any reason to doubt that He will?
