The Voice of Experience
A remarkable chain of events is lined out in today’s reading from Psalm 40:1-5. First, David endured a time of severe distress. In his suffering he cried out to God for help. Because he prayed, God rescued him. This then prompted David to praise God for delivering him so wonderfully. Consequently, many could see what God had done for David and would themselves learn to trust in the Lord.
distress → cry for help → rescued by God → praise to God → others learn to trust God
Can’t we today replicate David’s experience? When we face hardships, we pray for help. When God grants our request, the appropriate response is not only praise to God but also telling others what God has done for us. Those who hear our story may then be drawn to the Source of our help!
Once we experience God’s lovingkindess toward us personally—and haven’t we all—isn’t it only natural we would want others to experience it too?
“Come and hear, all who fear God, and I will tell of what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16 NASB).
