In God We Trust
My favorite Old Testament passage is this one: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB).
Note: “Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart . . . . In ALL your ways acknowledge Him . . . .”
We can call this the Trust Principle, and it is this: Rely on God without reservation. Do not rely on anything or anyone else--not on yourself, not on political leaders, not on military power, not on wealth. Rely on God alone.
When we rely on Him, what will we discover? That He is totally reliable, completely trustworthy, absolutely dependable, always faithful. He will never fail us.
Today’s reading from Psalm 33:16-22 contrasts false trusts with the Lord, who “is our help and our shield.” Help means enablement. Shield involves protection. The psalmist urges us to fear Him, hope in Him, wait for Him, trust in Him, rejoice in Him.
Those who have taken God at His word and have put their full weight down on His promises can testify from their own personal experience. It works! It really does!
