This Night
I wouldn’t mind insomnia nearly so much if only I could sleep right through it! Does anything ever keep you awake? Money worries? Conflicts at home? Problems at work? Concerns about health?
O to be able to sleep soundly in times of trouble! To sleep as Jesus slept in the storm at sea. To sleep as Peter slept in Herod’s prison. O the blessing of “sleep that knits up the raveled sleave of care”!
When night comes we who are Christians have every reason to relax. As we walk in the light and confess our sins, we can rest assured: we are forgiven (1 John 1:7, 9). We know too that whatever happens, “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 NASB).
We are promised that nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
Like a sleeping child snuggled in Daddy’s arms, we can feel completely secure in the care of our loving Father.
Savior, grant me rest and peace,
Let my troubled dreamings cease;
With the chiming midnight bell,
Teach my heart that “all is well.”

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).
