Why Go It Alone?

All of us have problems. At times we may feel like the proverbial camel—one straw short of total collapse.

God understands. As our Maker He knows what we’re made of and how we react under stress. As a loving Father He has provided numerous “coping techniques” to help His children through each day. Here are three of them:

1) The suffering Christian can gain so much strength from a daily dose of Bible study. Here we see that troubles are part of the plan for shaping us for a better world. As we read of the struggles of God-fearing men and women in the Bible, we can come to realize, “If they could make it with God’s help, then so can I!”

2) “Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray” (James 5:13 KJV). There’s nothing like trouble to remind us of our limitations. The only logical place to turn is the throne of grace where “we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16 KJV).

3) And what would we do without the fellowship of other believers? “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2 NASB).

How in the world do non-Christians make it? Ultimately, they don’t! Dealing with hardships without the Bible, without prayer, and without the church will simply not work. But unbelievers try it anyway. After all, they are unbelievers.
